Porsche
Since the first Porsche was produced in 1948, the brand has been a symbol of prestige and luxury. Founded in 1930 by German professor Ferdinand Porsche, ‘Dr. Ing h. c. f. Porsche GmbH’ began its life as a motor vehicle development company, consulting on models such as the iconic Volkswagen Beetle.
The first car to bear the Porsche name was the 356 model, the sales of which far exceeded Ferdinand’s expectations. The 356 was produced for 17 years, and is generally agreed to have been responsible for laying the foundation of Porsche’s early success.
Arguably Porsche’s most important release – the legendary Porsche 911 – appeared in 1964. The 911 brought the company great success on the race-track and in road car sales, and is still produced today. The 911 is considered by many to be the one of the most famous sports cars of all time.
Porsche has dominated motor sports for decades, achieving more than 28,000 victories over five decades. Notable Porsche racing models include the Porsche 917, the 911 Carrera RS, the 935 Turbo and, of course the 911. Porsche is the world’s largest racing car manufacturer.
Today, Porsche supplies vehicles to countries throughout the world. Models available to Australian consumers include the Boxster mid-engine roadster, the Cayenne luxury sport utility, the 911, the Panamera luxury sedan and the Cayman rear-wheel driver sports car.
