The Car Showroom team are huge fans of the Jeep Grand Cherokee range which provides a superb American alternative to Asian and European SUVs.
Now Jeep has added a new model variant – the ‘Overland’ – which we’re looking forward to sampling.
Priced at $68,990 (the same as the diesel-powered 3.0 CRD Limited model), the Overland is powered by Chrysler’s 5.7-litre 16-valve VVT HEMI V8 with 259kW/520Nm. Featuring Chrysler’s Multi-Displacement System (MDS), this high-tech V8 smoothly slips into four cylinder mode when V8 demand is not needed – delivering significant gains in fuel economy.
Standard luxury equipment is impressive, including HID Xenon headlights, front and rear park assist, reversing camera, rain-sensing automatic wipers and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside are leather-trimmed seats, real walnut burlwood accents, power front seats, electric windows, dual-zone air-conditioning, power sunroof and heated seats front and rear.
Infotainment is also top shelf – a 276-watt premium sound system with six Boston Acoustics speakers, Bluetooth and a 3D satellite navigation system with 30GB hard drive.
Underneath is the latest version of Jeep’s Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system with fulltime all-wheel-drive and three electronic limited-slip differentials.
With winter approaching, now is the time many winter sports enthusiasts start thinking about a new car and the Jeep Grand Cherokee certainly delivers a sharply-priced and luxurious American vehicle that has genuine off-road ability.
