Skoda Debuts Electric Octavia

by Brad Leach - 17/05/11

Skoda has unveiled its Octavia Green E Line concept at an international electric vehicle conference in Prague, Czech republic.

The electric Octavia wagon, developed in conjunction with parent company Volkswagen, is powered by an 85kW/270Nm electric motor with a 180 lithium-ion cells battery pack.

Skoda says the electric Octavia accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 12 seconds, has a top speed of 135km/h and a range between battery recharges of around 150kms.

Recharging from a standard socket takes eight hours or four hours using a 400V source.

Impressively, the standard passenger compartment is maintained and the luggage space is a handy 490-litres.

A revised dashboard gives battery charge information, LED light bulbs replace the standard units and three photovoltaic panels on the roof provide electrical charge.

Skoda plans to have a fleet of the electric Octavia wagons on test by the end of this year.
