Skoda Sets New Land Speed Record

by Brad Leach - 23/08/11

Skoda UK’s stocks with their Czech Republic head office will have sky-rocketed after the British team powered a modified Skoda Octavia vRS to an official new world land speed record for 2.0-litre production cars.

The 447kW Octavia raced across the salt flats in Bonneville, Utah (North America) to establish a new record of 365.42km/h, beating the previous mark of 348km/h. In setting the average of two runs, the Skoda Octavia hit a top speed of 368km/h on its return pass.

During the week in Bonneville, the Skoda Octavia completed six runs, all of them better than 321km/h (200mph).

You can bet Skoda will be using this stunning result to boost its barnd image in upcoming advertising campaigns.

The UK is Skoda’s largest single export market.
