Sports car fans will be buoyed that resurgent British brand Lotus will use the Frankfurt Motor Show to unveil its most powerful car – the 327kW Lotus Evora GTE.
Originally developed as a limited edition model for the Asian market, Lotus has decided to put the Evora GTE into series production. A good move considering the 114 cars originally built for China sold out within days!
The GTE uses carbon fibre for the front and rear bumpers, rear wing and doors to deliver a 105kgs weight recution over the standard Evora.
Also new for Lotus in Frankfurt will be a 162kW, 1.8-litre for the Elise S. Same power as the Elise SC, but the new engine has a better torque spread for improved throttle response, lower emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
There’s also some new options. The SPS (Series Precision Shift) is another gearbox for the 1.6-litre Elise. This lightweight transmission runs paddle shifters enabling the driver two switch between manual and automatic modes.
And the Evora gains IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) - an automatic option for the Evora S.
Australian buyers will see the Lotus Elise S, Elise SPS and Evora S IPS ‘downunder’ in 2012.
