At Last Honda Reveals An All-New NSX Supercar

by James Ward - 11/01/12

At the Detroit Auto Show Honda answered the question which has perplexed sports car enthusiasts for more than a few years by rolling out the next-generation Honda NSX concept.

The indications are Honda is serious about making a return to the sports/supercar scene as the all-new NSX concept retains the mid-mounted V6 engine layout of its predecessor.

In Detroit Honda confirmed the new NSX is being developed by Honda North America for production at its Ohio plant as an ‘Acura’ product. However Honda says the newcomer (due within three years) is a global car so Australian sports car enthusiasts can start saving.

Of course 21st century technology and fuel-efficiency abounds in the new Honda NSX. The hybrid drive system sees electric drive for the front wheels while the next-generation VTEC V6 petrol engine with an in-built electric motor drives the rear wheels via a dual-clutch transmission.

As usual the whole concept is backed by Honda’s motorsport-developed engineering and the company says don’t expect tyre-torturing exclusively from the all-new NSX. Rather a focus on minimized weight and chassis balance will deliver a true supercar dynamic
