Toyota Previews Yaris Hybrid

by Brad Leach - 11/01/12

These are the first photos of the all-new Toyota Yaris hybrid which is scheduled for debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. But don’t expect the hybrid version to be added to the Australian Yaris lineup – Toyota sales and marketing boss David Buttner told Car Showroom the company’s hybrid small car is the Prius which gains two all-new models this year.

Toyota says the Yaris hybrid will go on-sale in Europe just a couple of months after its Geneva Motor Show premiere. According to Toyota the Yaris hybrid will be the first full hybrid in Europe’s ‘B’ segment and the cheapest full hybrid.

Toyota Yaris hybrid also debuts Toyota’s latest Hybrid Synergy Drivetrain which is more compact dimensionally and lighter the version we’re familiar with in the Prius and Lexus CT200h. The petrol engine is the existing Yaris 1.5-litre.

That smaller hybrid package size means the Toyota Yaris hybrid offers the same 286-litre luggage capacity as conventional Yaris models.
