Hyundai has fired the first shot in Australia’s ‘2012 Sports Car War’ with news its first sports car – the innovative Veloster – will be sold in two model grades and priced between $23,990 and $29,990.

No doubt Toyota and Subaru, launching the 86 and BRZ this year, will be studying that news very closely.
Hyundai Veloster breaks new ground in the sports car market – it’s a ‘2+1’ with its clever use of three doors (the extra door on the left-side for extra passenger convenience/safety).
Power comes from Hyundai’s 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine, delivering 103kW and driving through either a six-speed manual or Hyundai’s new double-clutch six-speed automatic. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.4l/100kms.

Hyundai Veloster runs the full range of safety-tech including vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, traction control, plus ABS brakes with electroni brakeforce distribution and brake assist. Hill start assist control is standard on automatic versions.
Good news also on the safety front with the Hyundai Veloster awarded the maximum five-star rating following the latest round of local ANCAP barrier testing.

Car Showroom will put the Hyundai Veloster through its paces late next week at the national media launch.
The full range is:
Veloster (6-speed manual) $23,990
Veloster (6-speed automatic) $25,990
Veloster+ (6-speed manual) $27,990
Veloster+ (6-speed automatic) $29,990
