Toyota Flexes Muscles In JD Power Dependability Study…

by Brad Leach - 21/02/12

After getting battered last year with a raft of recalls in North America, Toyota has bounced back as only the world’s number one car-maker can with a dominant result in the authoritative JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study.

Counting sister brands Lexus and Scion, the Toyota group walked away with eight awards in the JD Power studies – more than any other brand and in fact equal to all other brands combined.

Of the vehicles sold in Australia which were honoured you can count Yaris, Prius, Rukus (Scion xB in North America) and the Lexus RX350.

Toyota Corolla ranked number two behind the Prius in the compact car segment and both Camry and Kluger (Highlander in North America) were ranked in the top three in their segments.

Lexus scored the best of the 32 brands considered and Scion hurtled-up 17 positions to be ranked fifth. Toyota tied for third overall – the highest ranked “non-premium nameplate” according to JD Power.

The JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study has been conducted since 1990 and evaluates vehicle performance experienced by new car buyers during the first three years of ownership.
