It’s not even Christmas and already we’re counting down the days until the end of 2013. That’s when Audi will launch the magnificent RS 6 Avant in Australia.
As high-performance wagons go, the Audi RS 6 Avant takes some beating – a 412kW/700Nm twin-turbo V8, driving through a revised (shorter ratios) eight-speed automatic transmission, provides zero to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds (that’s 0.4 seconds faster than the 410kW/810Nm Mercedes Benz’ E63 AMG Estate).
Audi says the latest RS 6 Avant’s extra performance stems from reduced weight (more alloy in body slashing 100kgs) and it’s also more fuel-efficient. In fact with cylinder deactivation, auto start stop and better thermal management, the latest RS 6 Avant logs 9.8l/100kms – that’s some 40 per-cent better than the previous model.
Underneath, the latest RS 6 Avant is the first Audi RS model fitted standard with air suspension. The adaptive system can lower the vehicle by 20mm but performance drivers can still opt for conventional steel springs in the Dynamic Ride Control set-up.
‘Dynamic’ is the only way to describe the Audi RS 6 Avant’s appearance. There’s lots of matt aluminium features, side skirts, a large rear spoiler and diffuser and, if that’s not enough, you can opt for one of two appearance packages - Matte Aluminium or Carbon.
Standard wheels are seven twin-spoke 20-inch alloys but massive 21-inch wheels are on the options list.
Inside is the expected Audi RS package – seats in black Alcantara and leather, the flat-bottom race steering wheel, piano finish, retractable monitor etc. Two individual rear seats are standard (a regular three-person bench is optional) and luggage space is 1680-litres.
Yep, this is yet another brilliant Audi…the line starts at your nearest Audi dealer.
