Skoda Octavia, the Volkswagen Passat-based mid-size sedan from the Czech Republic manufacture is set for change with the new third-generation model unveiled in Europe.
According to Skoda, the latest Octavia delivers class-leading dimensions with more head-room and knee-room than rivals and a handy 590-litres of boot space. Compared to the current model, the newcomer adds more front seat head-room and elbow-room front and rear.
On the outside, Skoda’s stylists have a delivered a sophisticated, contemporary look which is much more up-market than the current model. The third generation Skoda Octavia is also larger 90mm longer overall, 45mm wider and the wheelbase has grown by 108mm – and that means more rear seat space.
But weight has been pared – the third generation Skoda Octavia tips the scales 102kgs lighter than its predecessor.
In Europe, the new Skoda Octavia will be offered with Front Assistant/emergency braking, Lane Assistant, adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistant and driver fatigue detection. At this stage Skoda Australia has not released details of the local specifications.
Under the bonnet the range of engines include an 81kW 1.6-litre turbo-diesel and 132kW 1.8-litre TSI petrol. Skoda says LPG and all-wheel-drive models are under development.
And waiting in the wings is the sporty RS model.
Skoda Australia will announce the local lineup at launch next year.
