Opel Australia has confirmed a March 2013 for sporty Opel Performance Centre models.
With a 206kW/400Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, Opel is claiming the Astra OPC will be the most powerful hot hatch in Australia. While the Astra OPC eclipses the other Europeans, Opel forgot the 221kW/407Nm Subaru WRX STi spec R.
Nevertheless, the Opel Astra OPC covers zero to 100km/h in just six seconds and certainly throws down a challenge to the likes of Renault Megane RS, Volkswagen Golf R and Ford Focus ST.
Moving upscale is the Opel Insignia OPC – the most powerful production vehicle so far from General Motor’s German brand. With a turbocharged 2.8-litre V6 engine delivering 238kW/435Nm and driving through Opel’s adaptive all-wheel-drive system, the Insignia OPC has been honed via extensive testing at the Nurburgring race circuit.
Underneath are 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inch is an option) and Brembo brakes while inside are Recaro sports seats and the expected European sporty extras.
The three-door Opel Corsa OPC arrives with a 141kW/260Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre engine and Brembo brakes.
Opel Australia has confirmed the Astra OPC is priced from $42,990 and pricing for the Insignia OPC and Corss OPC will be announced ahead of their March introduction.
All will come with sports bodykits and suspension upgrades developed by Opel Performance Centre – Opel’s version of HSV – which has been developing high-performance Opels since 1999.
