BMW chose the Detroit Auto Show to reveal the upcoming 4 Series Coupe in close to production form (although technically still a concept car).
From the next model change, the 4 Series will become BMW’s mid-size coupe as the 3 Series becomes a four-door model only. The switch is part of BMW’s plan to ‘muscle-up’ the coupe lineup and this is evident in the looks of the 4 Series – a low roofline, prominent side character lines and front fender air-vents, aggressive front-end and strong rear. For the first time, BMW’s hallmark kidney grille is closed-off on the 4 Series (improved aero).
Compared to the 3 Series Coupe, BMW says the 4 Series is larger and wider (front track is 45mm wider and rear track is 80mm wider).
Inside the 4 Series ramps-up the luxo and technology over the current 3 Series range.
BMW will launch the 4 Series lineup later this year so full details (including engines) will be revealed then.
