Audi has confirmed a late-2013 arrival for the new A3 Sportback model.
Employing a totally new 2.0-litre TFSI engine with 221kW/380Nm, the new five-door Audi A3 Sportback delivers a spritely 5.0-seconds for zero to 100km/h yet returns fuel consumption of 6.9l/100kms – a significant improvement over the current model. The new Audi powerplant is five kgs lighter than the existing 2.0 TFSI and more compact – it sits 52mm further forwards in the chassis and is tilted backwards by 12 degrees.
Overall the new Audi S3 Sportback is 70kgs lighter than its predecessor – thanks to ultra-high-strength steel in the passenger cell and front fenders and bonnet made from aluminium.
Externally the Audi A3 Sportback is identified via a revised front bumper with unique air inlets and aluminium-look ribs and a matt Platinum Grey sports grille (LED head-lights are optional). There’s also a roof spoiler, four oval exhaust tailpipes and a Platinum Grey rear diffuser.
On the inside, the Audi A3 Sportback runs sports seats (racier S Sport seats are optional), contrast stitching, unique dark-grey instruments and brushed aluminium pedals. A two-tone colour scheme is optional.
Underneath is the S sport suspension (lowered by 25mm) and 18-inch alloy wheels. Audi Drive Select variable dynamics (‘comfort’, ‘auto’, ‘dynamic’ or ‘efficiency’) is standard while variable shock absorbers are on the options list.
Audi will announce detailed local specifications and pricing closer to Australian launch in the fourth quarter.
