Korean Commodore, anyone?
Split into three trimlines, the Kia Stinger V6 will arrive in Australia priced as follows:
- Stinger S — $48,990
- Stinger Si — $55,990
- Stinger GT — $59,990
*all prices exclude relevant on-road costs.
Powering the three variants detailed today will be the more powerful of the two petrol engines on offer globally, namely a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 unit rated for no less than 272kW and 510Nm. The Stinger, with this engine, is claimed to hit 100km/h from rest in just 4.9-seconds, and complete a quarter-mile sprint in less than 14-seconds. Power will be sent exclusively to the rear wheels in our market, going through a standard-fit eight-speed automatic. Neither pricing, specifications, nor performance figures for the 2.0-litre variant that will slot beneath the V6 were clarified at press time.
“It was critical for us to bring this car to as wide an audience as possible, something I believe we have achieved with the pricing. From the outset, it was a goal to get a bi-turbo V6 into the market for under $50,000. We have done that, with room to spare.” — Kia Australia COO, Damien Meredith
It appears that while frugality and fuel efficiency is a priority for many buyers, these points appear to matter little to potential Stinger customers. “Almost all of the confirmed orders are for the 3.3-litre,” Meredith said, explaining why the company chose to only release details on the more potent Stinger models. In any case, we are just as excited as everyone else for this car to hit the market sometime very soon.
