Subaru WRX fans rejoice – the iconic sedan makes a comeback in 2009.

Both WRX sedan and hatchback models gain a raft of technical advances too as part of the ’09 changes.

The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine now produces 195kW at 6000 rpm and 343Nm at 4000 rpm. The legendary powerplant is also greener and more fuel efficient with fuel consumption down to 10.4l/100 kms and carbondioxide emissions down to 247g/km.

Changes for the ’09 WRX (hatch and new sedan) are:

  • 0-100km/h down to 5.31 seconds
  • 26kW more power/ 23 Nm more torque
  • increased turbocharger boost (from 78 kPa to 92 kPa)
  • upgraded suspension package for sharper handling
  • greener engine specs
  • new options – leather trim with sunroof, satellite navigation
  • new mesh grille + WRX badges front and rear
  • distinctive red brake callipers
  • wider tyres (Dunlop SP Sport 01 225/45R17)
  • red stitching highlights for seats and steering wheel

Subaru Australia says it provided major input into the revised suspension settings with much testing done locally. Then coil springs, stabilizers and top mounts are stiffened and roll rigidity increased for a sharper turn-in.

Subaru also responded to gearbox feel with improved synchromesh and ball key for first and second gears.
