Toyota has wheeled-out a mild but significant update for the top-selling Corolla hatchback.
Power still comes from Toyota’s 2ZR-FE 1.8-litre with 103kW on-tap but changes now see combined-cycle fuel consumption for the six-speed manual drop to 6.7l/100kms.
And efficiency gains in the seven-speed automatic transmission now see a combied-cyle figure of just 6.1l/100kms.
On the styling front, look for Ascent and Ascent Sport models with a revised ‘European inspired’ style featuring a stronger front bumper, full-width lower grille, new grille and Toyota badge, new headlight clusters plus new-design 16-inch alloy wheels (the latter for Ascent Sport) while SX and ZR models score a sporty body kit with a piano-black honeycomb mesh for the upper grille, a hexagonal lower grille, front, side and rear skirts plus a roof spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Range-topping ZR adds bi-LED headlights and LED DRLs.
And inside is a cleaner look with lots of detail changes.
For starters there is a new steering wheel design for all models and new blue-coloured instruments. Ascent and Ascent Sport models run a three-gauge configuration while SX and ZR score a two-gauge layout with a 4.2-inch multi-information screen.
As well there is a new dashboard layout, new door handles, air vents and gear-lever surround plus new audio systems – including Toyota Link connected mobility and a seven-inch toch-screen for SX and ZR with satellite navigation.
Underneath is a revised calibration for both suspension and power steering plus Hill Start Assist Control.
The revised range looks like this:
| Ascent manual | $19,790 |
| Ascent automatic | $21,790 |
| Ascent Sport manual | $20,790 |
| Ascent Sport automatic | $22,790 |
| SX manual | $23,490 |
| SX automatic | $25,490 |
| ZR automatic | $28,990 |
