Powertrain and safety updates take centre stage to accompany the visual and tech upgrades for the new Colorado pickup.
New information has come to light about the upcoming updated version of the Chevrolet Colorado. Where previously only some optional accessories and infotainment upgrades were detailed along with the obviously refreshed exterior, some powertrain and standard kit details have also emerged.
Of course, we’re not sure about what exactly will be carried over to the Australian market where it will reach customers under the Holden brand, but this should be quite a clear indicator.
In terms of the powertrain, the 2.5-litre four-cylinder Duramax turbodiesel engine has now a tweaked and uprated to deliver 180hp (134kW) at 3,600rpm and 440Nm of torque at 2,000rpm, reaching all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
To improve NVH levels, the pickup has been given more sound insulation to surround the cabin, a more noise-absorbent material lining the engine bay and a set of new engine mounts designed to better mitigate engine vibration.
In all, these measures lead to a cabin that is 2-4dB quieter on average compared to the previous Colorado under similar driving conditions.
Chevrolet has also fitted the new 2017 Colorado with Electric Power Steering (EPS) as standard, Lane Departure Warning system, Traction Control System (TCS) with Panic Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, and Forward Collision Alert system. There’s also front and rear parking assist with proximity sensors and tyre pressure monitoring.
Other features, which could arrive as optional extras or reserved for the highest trim level, are automatic rain sensing wipers, rear view camera, and remote start functionality – allowing the driver to start the engine and get the cabin nice and cool before entering.
As previously covered, the interior also gets some new material choices to match the improved level of refinement as well as a new 8.0-inch central infotainment touchscreen with support with Apple CarPlay support.
