The final round of the global Ferrari Challenge at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi saw the premiere of the FXX K ‘test car’.
‘K’ stands for ‘KERS’ as in ‘Kinetic Energy Recovery System’ and Ferrari is wheeling-out the FXX K to ‘Client Test Drivers’ for the next two years.
The 6.3-litre V12 hybrid engine delivers a combined 773kW of power (860kW from the V12 and 190kW from the electric motor) and over 900Nm of torque.
This time the mighty V12 hybrid uses new-design camshafts, mechanical tappets, new intake manifolds and of course the race car has dispensed with mufflers.
Likewise the HY-KERS hybrid management system has been modified to suit its competition application (a setting for qualifying for example).
On the outside, the front view sees a twin-profile spoiler and large splitter which is 30mm lower than standard and the advanced end plate, dive plane and vertical fins were crafted using aero data collected in the GT racing category of the World Endurance Championship which Ferrari 458 Italias have won for three consecutive years.
Similar story at the rear with, for example the deployable spoiler sizing-up 60mm larger than standard. So in low drag configuration there is a 50 per-cent increase in downforce and the high-drag configuration a 30 perc0ent increase in downforce will be appreciated.
And of course the electronic differential has been re-configured for competition and the driver can select from five ABS settings.
