Volvo Australia’s Managing Director, Alan Desselss, made brief mention of the company’s new owners - the Chinese Geely Group - but Volvo’s focus at the Australian International Motor Show was the all-new S60 sedan.
Very handily priced from $51,950, the S60 goes on-sale in December and continues Volvo’s much-improved, contemporary styling. The new Volvo S60 is also comprehensively equipped - for example, typical of Volvo’s fastidiousness, the beautiful Scandinavia designed, full leather interior complies with the international standard Oeko-Tex 100, which ensures all materials and metals, are free from hazardous substances.
All-new Volvo S60 offers three engine choices.
Entry-level T5 models are front-wheel-drive and are powered by Volvo’s new 177kW, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel. D5 models are all-wheel-drive and feature the updated 151kW, 2.4-litre, five-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine, while the range-topping T6 drives all four wheels with the 224kW, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine.
As expected, the new Volvo S60 gets a green tick on the safety front with Volvo’s new pedestrian detection system available as an option, joining the standard City Safety, Advanced Stability Control, Intelligent Driver information System and Pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioners.
Also ramping-up in the all-new Volvo S60 is the infotainment system, which offers a five, or seven-inch multi-function screen, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, remote steering wheel controls and voice activation.
The full range is:
S60 T5 $51,950
S60 D5 AWD $57,950
S60 T6 WAD $64,950
