Holden Cruze giving low levels of fuel consumption & exhaust emissons
Holden's superb new Cruze is available with either a 1.8-litre DOHC four-cylinder 16-valve ECOTEC petrol engine or a 2.0-litre SOHC four-cylinder 16-valve common rail turbo-diesel
Both provide commendably low levels of fuel consumption and exhaust emissions
According to the combined cycle, the 1.8-litre Cruze (manual) consumes just 7.0l/100kms. To compare: Mitsubishi's 2.0-litre Lancer sedan (7.6l/100kms) and Toyota's 1.8-litre Corolla sedan (7.4l/100kms).
Cruze's 2.0-litre diesel is even more frugal - it's rated at 5.7l/100kms (manual).
Both engines comply with the tough Euro IV emissions standard. For the 1.8-litre petrol manual, CO2 emissions are 166g/km and for the 2.0-litre diesel manual, CO2 emissions are 149g/km.
Economical - yes - and both deliver great on-road performance. The petrol engine produces 104kW at 6200rpm and peak torque of 176Nm while the diesel is good for 110kW/320Nm.
The petrol powerplant features two continuously adjustable camshafts to optimize the charge cycle for high power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
And the intercooled turbo-diesel is the latest high-pressure common-rail design that delivers multiple injection performance and optimized injection quality within the combustion chamber - this not only reduces engine noise, it also provides great fuel economy and a cleaner exhaust.
