Leaked image may just preview the impending facelift.

Is This The 2017 Hyundai Sonata?

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata may have just been outed, with an image surfacing online of what appears to be a production model. The singular image was first seen on Hyundai-Blog.com, which did not detail how the image was obtained or where it originated from.

The blog itself has been on a bit of a roll with the new Sonata, having first published leaked design illustrations of the facelift Sonata, right before Hyundai officially published the same sketches. If the leaked image proves to be true, the incoming Sonata facelift will sport a more aggressive, more athletic look than the current saloon that’s populating Hyundai showrooms worldwide.

As only the front three-quarters can be seen here, we can only see new headlights, nose, and bumper, with redesigned LED daytime running lights populating the edges of that bumper. Hyundai’s new corporate ‘cascading grille’ features here, and the flat-faced ‘H’ badge suggests it’s hiding some active safety sensors. While a rear shot of the new Sonata have yet to surface, the design drawings suggest a more elaborate, and more bold rear, with wide-spaced ‘Sonata’ lettering linking the two distinctive taillights.

Hyundai has so far confirmed that an updated Sonata will be making its debut in April, prior to sales commencing in its home market of South Korea. The Sonata will bear two distinctive designs, with the leaked image showing the vanilla variant, as well as a hotter ‘Turbo’ model with equally dialled-up styling.
