With its black and gold colour scheme, the limited edition Lotus Exige S Type 72 celebrates the most successful F1 racer of all time – the Lotus Type 72.
With Ronnie Peterson, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jochen Rindt and Jack Ickx at the wheel, the Lotus 72 won 20 Grands Prix between 1970 and 1975, delivering two Drivers’ World Championships and three Formula One Constructors Championships.
Only three of the Exige S Type 72 sports cars are coming to Australia with a price tag of $109,990.
Power comes from a 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine with 179kW/230Nm and driving the rear wheels via a six-speed close ratio gearbox and torque-sensing limited slip differential.
Traction control, with launch control has been developed from the Lotus Sport GT3 motorsport program and includes 18 driver-selectable settings. The Exige S type 72 runs 16-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with R compound Yokohama A048 tyres.
Stopping is handled by AP four-piston caliper front discs and Brembo single piston rears.
Even the air-conditioning system has been designed for performance. The entire air-con system weighs just 15kgs and the compressor automatically turns off when it senses full throttle acceleration – to preserve maximum engine performance.
Weighing just 935kgs, the scintillating Lotus covers zero to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 235km/h.
