Peugeot's collaboration with Mitsubishi is obvious in the all-new 4007 four-wheel-drive SUV.

That powerful alignment is more than skin deep - the stylish French SUV is powered by Peugeot's 2.2-litre HDI diesel engine but drives through a Mitsubishi-developed 4X4 system.

Pricing is sharp, starting from $45,490 and three of the four models are sub-$50,000. Peugeot claims the 4007 is the only European seven seat SUV priced below $50,000.

Like the 407 sedan and wagon, Peugeot is offering the 4007 in two model grades - ST and SV. All are powered by the 2.2-litre HDi diesel but only the ST is available with a six-speed manual transmission - the others drive through a Getrag six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The latest generation HDi engine provides maximum power of 115kW and peak torque of 380Nm. Fuel economy is good - 7.0l/100kms and emissions are 191g/km.

Peugeot has done a great job with the exterior styling - highlighted by the distinct front-end treatment with its large 'Peugeot Lion', curvaceous lights and fenders. The rear is accentuated by more curves and translucent ruby lights.
