Tesla’s Model S keeps getting fastest and faster afters its initial 2012 debut. Most recently, the EV maker released a software update that enables their quickest P100D to accelerate to 100km/h in just 2.4-ish seconds by accessing Ludicrous+ mode

Now this Model S is quicker, needing just 2.1 seconds to reach that speed from a dead launch, though this one has been extensively modified to race - specifically in the upcoming Electric GT Champion series.

The organisers showed off the car’s impressive acceleration capabilities during a demonstration at the 2017 Autosport International in the UK. There, at the show’s Live Action Arena, the race-ready Model S was happy to produce a large plume of tyre smoke - maybe those zero emissions claims aren’t all that accurate, then.

2.1 seconds to dispatch 100km/h from rest is an incredible achievement for any car. To achieve this, the car had to be fitted with a larger battery capable of a more rapid rate of discharge, it’s electric motor now produces 585kW and it weighs roughy 500kg less than stock.

Additionally, its suspension has been lowered and stiffened and extra bodywork such as a front splitter, wide fixed rear spoiler, and rear diffuser have been added to improve high-speed aerodynamics.

The Electric GT championship is a very new series. Announced in March 2016, it as yet has not run its inaugural race. Still, the organisers promise that 10 teams have been confirmed for the line-up with 20 drivers and 7 race locations.
