Debut at the Geneva motor show, perhaps.

Land Rover is evidently putting the finishing touches on its new, blistering family wagon, the Range Rover Velar SVR. With a supercharged V8 under the bonnet and bespoke chassis tuning, the Velar SVR promises to bring the game onto cars like BMW’s X6M, Mercedes-AMG’s GLE, and Porsche’s Cayenne.

With a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet, putting out a colossal 405kW and 680Nm, the Velar SVR is expected to be able to complete the century sprint somewhere around the 4.0-second mark. That rapid acceleration will be down to both the mammoth motor as well as the diet that the Velar is expected to undergo, as befitting a true SVR.

“A host of weight-saving measures” will bring the Velar SVR down to just 1800kg, which while still substantial, is almost half a tonne lighter than a comparable BMW. Further, SVR has been putting the Velar through its paces at the Nurburgring, and have been faithfully and tirelessly tooling away at the chassis and suspension to ensure that it lives up to its name as being the most driver-focused Range Rover there has ever been.

The Velar SVR will not be the sole supercharged British SUV in this segment, though: While the Velar SVR is due to hit the roads in October, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR with a more variation of the supercharged V8 mill, will go on sale in June.

And while you may think that they’re just the same car beneath the skin (because largely, they are), the Jaguar should, in theory, offer a properly uncompromised performance SUV package due to its more road-biased nature, whereas the Velar SVR will retain the off-road capability that every Range Rover comes with as standard. Least, that’s what Autocar reports.
