Extra equipment and new features, combined with a new starting price of just $22,990 mean the all-new Citroen C4 is a much better proposition than its predecessor.
Powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines, the allpnew Citroen C4 is offered in three model grades – entry-level ‘Attraction’, mid-range ‘Seduction’ and range-topping ‘Exclusive’. Seduction models gain extras like cruise control, fog lights, tinted glass, electric rear windows, leather steering wheel and Bluetooth while Exclusive versions go further with Blind Spot Monitoring, massaging front seats, and customizable colour instruments.
Looks are much improved over the previous Citroen C4 – like the C5 and C3, demonstrating Citroen’s styling resurgence. Measuring 4.33-metres in length, 1.79-metres in width and standing 1.49-metres high, the all-new Citroen C4 is larger than the current version and looks much more dynamic and balanced.
Practicality gets the usual Citroen attention and the mid-size five-door C4 hatchback delivers 380-litres of cargo volume with the rear seat in place or 1183-litres when folded.
The 1.6-litre petrol engines were jointly developed with BMW. There’s a naturally-aspirated version with 88kW of petrol and a turbocharged version ((only available in ‘Exclusive’ model grade) with 115kW.
And there’s two versions of the 82kW, 1.6-litre HDi diesel – the standard and an e-boosted variant. The latter optimizes fuel consumption thanks to the six-speed EGS transmission and auto start-stop which cuts the engine at speeds below 6km/h (other systems require the vehicle to be completely stopped.
Citroen says inclusion of massaging front seats (Exclusive model) is a first in this segment.
“The original Citroen C4 was one of the most significant vehicles in the history of Citroen,” explained Citroen Australia chief Miles Williams. “The new Citroen C4 adds a new maturity to the priginal car, a new standard of technology and comfort, a new level of value for money and, as such, is more well placed to repeat the success of its predecessor.”
