While the XL Sport garnered the Paris headlines for Volkswagen, don’t overlook the Passat GTE – the first plug-in hybrid Passat.
With a TSI engine and electric motor combining for 160kW/400Nm, Volkswagen’s Passat GTE delivers a range between refills of more than 1,000kms, can cover 50kms on zero-emissions pure electricity and returns fuel consumption of less than 2.0l/100kms.
Drive is to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and in pure electric mode, the Volkswagen Passat GTE has a top speed of 130km/h.
‘C’-shaped LED DRLs identify the Volkswagen Passat GTE on the outside and inside is the ‘Composite Media’ infotainment system which enables downloading of the ‘CAR-NET e-Remote’ app so you can use your smart phone to instruct your car to start battery re-charging.
Look for the Volkswagen Passat GTE to enter production in Wolfsburg very soon.
