Cue the long line of cashed-up motoring journalists.
Despite the declining interest and sales of estate cars, Swedish marque Volvo is sticking to its guns and will be offering the V60 estate locally, much to the joy of motoring journalists around the country, the only sub-set of people yet to migrate into the SUV craze that’s sweeping the globe.
While the local office has yet to detail what flavours the V60 will be offered in, we’re willing to posit that the T8 TwinEngine PHEV powertrain is a given, along with the T5 pure-combustion setup for a more competitive price-point. Momentum should make up the entry-level trim level, followed by Inscription and R-Design.
They also haven’t talked about pricing, though considering that its key rivals from Stuttgart and Ingolstadt (the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and Audi A4 Avant respectively) command prices north of $64k, so that should be broadly where the V60 will land when it, uh, lands. But the Swede will fight back with a stronger, longer list of standard equipment and a ‘transparent’ retail price that should undercut the competition slightly, negating the need to haggle in showrooms.
Volvo AU also confirmed that the segment-busting V60 CrossCountry will find its way here in 2020, though specifics around that remain sparse.
