Ahead of the Arteon’s local launch slated for October, Volkswagen Australia have revealed the car’s local specifications for the sleek new lift back four-door coupe, taking over the torch from the now-discontinued CC.

As expected, its price (to be revealed closer to launch) and equipment list will reflect its position as Volkswagen’s new flagship sedan above the B8 Passat upon which it’s based. For now, they have only confirmed it arriving as a single spec variant, a 206TSI R-Line. Seeing as how the Passat 206TSI R-Line has a list price of $58k, expect the Arteon to start at over $60,000.

This means a 2.0-litre turbocharged EA888 four-cylinder petrol engine propelling the all four wheels via 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. Power and torque will stand at 206kW and 350Nm, just like the range-topping Passat and Skoda Superb, and sprint to 100km/h from rest taking just 5.6 seconds.

Being an R-Line model, there’s additional sporty bits scattered throughout the exterior and interior. Additionally, there’s standard Adaptive LED headlights, 19-inch Montevideo wheels, dynamic light assist, ambient interior lighting, and black Nappa leather upholstery.

Volkswagen is equipping the Arteon with a laundry list of technology features, some being a first for the German automaker. Semi-autonomous pre-collision systems factor highly in the car’s USP, for example Emergency Assist 2 debuts here which can move the car to the emergency lane with the hazard lights on should it detect the driver no longer having their hands on the wheel for an extended period and is unresponsive to notifiers.

This is achieved using the same sensors and computing power used to operate the adaptive cruise control and lane keep functions. Naturally, autonomous emergency braking is also standard on the Arteon; so is rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, park assist, and VW’s Adaptive Chassis Control with its selectable driving modes. Other debutant features in the VW’s tech arsenal is the a new head up display (HUD) and a 360-degree camera system.

Like the new Passat, there’s also the automaker’s newest in car entertainment and communications suite, using a 12.3-inch Active Info Display in lieu of a traditional analogue gauge cluster that works alongside the new 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment unit in the centre console with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Arteon will be available in a solid Pure White exterior finish or, optionally, five metallic choices -  Chilli Red, Manganese Grey, Turmeric Yellow, Atlantic Blue, and Pyrit Silver (why not Long John’s Silver?) - along with a pearlescent Deep Black.

Customers will be able to further specify their Arteon with a set of larger 10-spoke 20-inch Rosario alloys like the ones pictured, a premium Dynaudio speaker system, and a panoramic sunroof.
