There’s the MG we know.
While Chinese-owned MG may talk from here to yonder about its illustrious past as one of the most revered British sports car marques. While their marketing team may have been working overtime to ensure we never forget that, the cars that we’ve seen thus far have offered little allusion to the agility, thrill and experience that came to be synonymous with the MG brand.
However, it seems that management have finally understood that all that talk needs to be backed up by something tangible. Hence, the E-Motion supercar that’s been previewed in these images. Despite it looking the bomb, few technical details were shared with the photos, leaving us to wait for the Shanghai motorshow this week to learn more about this drool-inducing concept.
According to an Autocar report, the E-Motion is claimed to be able to hit 100km/h from rest in less than 4.0-seconds, thanks to an all-electric powertrain. Despite that performance, it should still be able to do about 500km on a single charge. The design of the E-Motion is very recognisable as that of a modern MG, with a similar fascia treatment as the compact ZS SUV, while the profile and rear have elements of Aston Martin and Jaguar respectively. However, all of these design elements come together beautifully, and the E-Motion is nothing if not gorgeous.
Like all bedroom-poster dream cars, the MG E-Motion features upward-opening doors, which show off four seats in the cabin. Thus far, there are no images showing off the interior, though we expect those to come in due course following the reveal in Shanghai. This concept will be only the second time that MG’s toyed with electric mobility, the first time being the EV concept from 3-years ago.
What do you think of MG harking back to its sports-car roots? Too little too late, or a signal of better things to come?
