The (not so) newly revived MG brand has just launched a BEV variant based on its ZS offering. The brand is offering it to the first 100 orders at a drive-away price $46,990. The EV is aimed squarely at the Hyundai Ioniq Electric, Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf.
The Chinese-owned marque’s (a subsidiary of SAIC Motor Group) EV is currently available on pre-order in Australia. The variant was launched at their new 1100sqm flagship showroom in Alexandria, Sydney.
The ZS EV is driven by a synchronous electric motor producing 105kW and 353Nm of torque applied to the front wheels. The go-juice is supplied by a liquid-cooled 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s good for 262km of range as based on the WLTP combined cycle. The brand says the electric-crossover performs the sprint in 8.5 seconds and will go on to achieve a top speed of 139 km/h.
For potential EV owners, charge times (apart from range and local charge point availability) is a significant factor of consideration. The ZS EV takes around 7 hours to charge from a 7kW home charge unit. But when hooked up to a 50kW fast charger, it only takes 40 minutes to get 80% charge (presumably from flat), says the brand.
Inside, you’ll find an eight-inch touchscreen unit displaying infotainment that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability along with sat nav and paired up to a six-speaker setup. A panoramic sunroof rounds off the standard interior features.
MG says the ZS EV will be covered by a seven year, 160,000 km new vehicle warranty with a seven-year coverage for the battery pack. The EV is slated to go on sale next year, however no specifics have been given. Watch this space for more updates.
