The title of ‘World’s Best’ applies here – the all-new Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG. The perfect blend of S Class and high-performance AMG, the newcomer is the flagship of the ‘three-pointed-star’ lineup and we will see it in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
And good news for limousine drivers – the S 63 AMG comes in both short and long-wheelbase derivatives. Can’t think of a better way to rush to the private jet when the client says: “Floor it!”
‘Flooring it’ brings into play the stunning ‘Benz-AMG 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 430kW and a mind-sapping 900Nm of torque. Drive is via the AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic transmission.
Rear-wheel-drive versions cover zero to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds, while the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive model (unlikely to come to Australia) hits the supercar mark of 4.0 seconds.
As you’d expect for an S Class, AMG styling additions are more subtle than say the C Class and E Class examples but there’s no doubt the S 63 AMG looks purposeful.
Inside is the usual array of AMG sportiness with AMG sports seats, AMG sports steering wheel (with glorious aluminium shifters for the seven-speed auto) and AMG instruments.
And of course the S 63 AMG hosts the full range of ‘Benz-AMG high performance and safety technology.
Not enough? Let’s go to the options list: ceramic brakes, a carbon fibre pack and even a lightweight engine cover.
Let the dreaming commence.
